Former Convent of Santo Domingo

Former Convent of Santo Domingo
A 16th-century building, listed on May 6, 1972, in the National Catalog of Historic Monument Properties. It was included in the classification of Historic Monuments on November 24, 2000, by the National Institute of Anthropology and History, under the decree declaring the city of Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, a zone of historic monuments, and it lies within perimeter “A” of the Historic Monuments Zone of Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, contemplated in the National Catalog of Historic Monument Properties.

It is an architectural gem that holds far more than aesthetic appeal. It is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and contributing to the cultural and historical activities that give rise to the various expressions representing the most important traditions of the municipality and the State. These have created an identity for us at the national and international levels.

As part of the State Council for the Cultures and Arts of Chiapas (CONECULTA), the Former Convent of Santo Domingo Cultural Center and the House-School of Traditions contribute to strengthening the region's cultural expressions and to the development of the arts through a special project and institutional support. The Former Convent of Santo Domingo Cultural Center provides the general public with alternative spaces to develop and enrich their cultural knowledge through its various services, such as: museums, guided tours, workshops, and artistic and cultural events, thereby promoting and encouraging the active participation of visitors.
