Tradition and Culture in Palenque

Tradition and Culture in Palenque
The Ruz L´Huiller Museum, which exhibits more than 230 archaeological pieces, and the Lak puj kul Textile Museum, which houses a collection of traditional garments, reveal the past of Chiapas

With a vast cultural legacy, Palenque has educational spaces that help nourish the traveler's spirit. The Dr. Alberto Ruz L´Huiller Archaeological Museum of Palenque, located one kilometer from the site, exhibits archaeological pieces, illustrations and objects belonging to pioneers, travelers, explorers and historians who have contributed to the research of the Maya World and of the sovereign king Pakal. On the other hand, the Textile Museum, located in the central plaza of Palenque, displays colorful textile garments made by Chiapas artisans. Here you can admire traditional attire of the region, as well as its evolution over time. As if that were not enough, you can take one of these pieces home with you if you so wish.

Located less than 10 kilometers from the center of Palenque, the Ruz L´Huiller Museum allows you to learn about the history of the most important excavations carried out during the 18th century. The museum is one of the most notable in the Maya area, as it gathers around 234 pieces from different areas of Palenque.

The hall features a cutting-edge design and offers visitors detailed and precise information about the great ruler Pakal. The time it takes to tour the permanent exhibition hall varies from 25 to 40 minutes.

The Lak puj kul Textile Museum, which means “our clothing”, exhibits samples of the textile production of the inhabitants of Chiapas and explains in detail how these garments are made. This cultural venue opens its doors to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
